Serge Gainsbourg (April 2, 1928 – March 2, 1991) was a French poet, singer-songwriter, actor and director. Gainsbourg’s varied style and individuality made him difficult to categorize. Although famous in France for many years, he did not achieve his first No. 1 album until 1979, when he released Aux Armes et caetera more than twenty years after his music career had begun. Charles Aznavour, born Shahnourh Varinag Aznavourian on May 22, 1924 is an Armenian-French singer, songwriter, actor and public activist. Besides being one of France’s most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the most well-known singers in the world. He is known for his characteristic short figure and unique tenor voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravely and soulful low notes. He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1000 songs (including 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German), and sold well over 100 million records. Édith Piaf was a French singer and cultural icon who is widely accepted as the country’s greatest pop singer. Her singing reflected her tragic life, with her specialty being the poignant ballad performed in a heartbreaking voice. With the Academy Award for best actress kidnapped by Marion Cotillard for her role as Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose“( french title “La Môme”) and two other trophies, french cinema knew one of its best days in Hollywood yesterday.
“Thanks Olivier (Dahan, director of the film), you have changed my life (…) I am without a voice,” said French actress 32 years, overwhelmed by emotion.
